Yung Ka Yan

Yung Ka Yan, a medalist for Hong Kong at the 15th Asian Games started working for the Sony Corporation in November 2007, just four weeks after the Athlete Career Programme (ACP) was signed between the SFOC and Adecco.

Yung quickly progressed from being the girl next door in Sha Tin, practicing on the Shing Mun River, to Olympic standards and representing Hong Kong in rowing at international events including the 15th Asian Games in Doha. In one such event, Yung actually broke her ankle, and against advice to pull out from her doctors and coaches, she was determined to carry on. Unable to walk, she was carried to her boat, lifted into it, and won a bronze medal in the event. This level of determination and ability to overcome adversity were only a few of the qualities that attracted Sony to hire this former athlete.

"With the support of Athlete Career Programme, I reintegrate into the community and found my job immediately" commented Yung Ka Yan "Now, I am starting to make gradual improvements and I have a much more clear vision for my future career."

Anthony Wong, Senior HR Manager for Sony Corporation said that the program was an ideal solution for providing talent with the right qualities to make up what he referred to as 'Sony's DNA'. Wong expressed delight in taking Yung on board, stating that in the short time she has been with the corporation, he has found her inquisitive, passionate and surprisingly mature for someone so young. "The ACP has definitely created a win-win situation", said Wong as he expressed thanks to Adecco for facilitating the new hire.
